I am an experienced proofreader, copy editor, and developmental editor living and working in Carlsbad, California. I typically work directly with designers, writers, and book packagers to create and edit content my clients are proud to publish. I also work with publishing houses to proofread and copy edit on a project-by-project basis.

I started my publishing career at a small publishing house in Santa Cruz, California, then moved to Chronicle Books in San Francisco. I wore many hats while I was there starting as the cookbook intern, moving to managing editorial intern, then I helped the children’s department venture into personalization, and finished by assisting the Publisher, President, and VP of Sales. The experience I earned at Chronicle was invaluable and gave me a full picture of the publishing world.

I struck out on my own as a freelancer in 2013. For the first eight years I focused specifically on cookbook proofreading, copy editing, and recipe testing and development and worked mostly with traditional publishers. Cookbooks are definitely my first love. Then I started working on gardening, entertainment, and lifestyle books. It’s been wonderful to open myself to so many different genres and have the chance to work directly with writers, designers, photographers, farmers, and creators.

I am passionate about books and the creative process, and I love sinking my teeth into a new project. Email me for any and all queries: amandapoulsendix@gmail.com.
